A Conversation with Alex Wilson on Trends, Technologies, and Products in Green Building

Alex Wilson has been following advances in building products and their environmental characteristics for over 20 years. This lunchtime event will provide an open conversation with Alex on current trends and problems in building-related product design and manufacture. Alex will come with a full quiver of interesting products, but be ready to ask questions and offer insight into where the industry is headed.

Professional Liability And The Building Enclosure

Architects will learn the meaning of the term "standard of care" as it pertains to the excersice of "due diligence" in the design of the building enclosure, and will discuss a range of implications resulting from different degrees of diligence.
Architects will also learn to differentiate and distinguish between what may constitute an appropriate increase in the amount of information typically provided on the construction documents and that which is more likely to address the "means and methods" of construction, the responsibility for which are typically assigned contractually to the General Contractor.
The seminar will provide training on the legal requirements associated with the performance (or non-performance) of construction-phase contract administration services on a project, and in identifying other situations in which the design professional often faces an increased risk of liability.
Architects will learn and discuss how to most effectively manage and allocate risks in the context of the utilization of manufacturers' information, product characteristics, testing results and installation procedures during the design phase of a project in order to increase the suceessful performance of building enclosure systems following the completion of construction.

Young Architects Forum (YAF) of Atlanta is pleased to announce the 2010 competition entitled 10Up. We’re calling young designers to step up to the 10Up challenge!

In partnership with Modern Atlanta (MA), YAF seeks participants to create a temporary inhabitable installation during their annual week-long celebration of local design and designers. Using this opportunity to better encourage architecture and artistic endeavors throughout Atlanta, YAF has organized atlanta competition for the design and construction of a temporary outdoor installation. This installation will heighten Atlanta's exposure to emerging talent in design nationally as well as facilitate a more educated and encouraging public.

The structure is to be fabricated, installed and operational during the Modern Atlanta week of events, currently planned for June 1 – 6, 2010, and should be unique to Atlanta and focus on an aspect of the city that is currently unrecognized or unacknowledged.
